Price Hunting Tip #1: Coupon Codes

Posted Monday, June 23rd, 2008 by John

We’ve been running Price Hunts for a couple months and thought it’d be cool if we let everyone know how our Top Hunters have been so successful.  We’ll start this series of tips by talking about the biggest reason people win a Price Hunt– a coupon code.

You’ll notice coupon codes all over Bountii.com in the “Buying Instructions” section on our deal pages (Note: We’re the only comparison shopping site that reflects available coupons savings in all our prices).  So you might think we know about every coupon out there.  While we’d love for this to be the case, it isn’t… yet.

How does this help you win a Price Hunt?

It’s simple.  Check out the best prices we show for a product in a Price Hunt.  For those that don’t include coupon savings, do a quick web search to see if the store offering that product has any current coupon codes that apply.  Depending on how many stores’ mailing lists your subscribed to, there’s a good chance you’ll find a coupon code in your inbox that unlocks enough savings to beat our best price.

Even though this is not a surefire way to earn yourself a Bountii, it will definitely improve your chances. Happy Hunting!

A Better Way to Get Price Alerts

Posted Thursday, June 19th, 2008 by John

There are quite a few places on the web where you can sign up to receive notifications about changing prices. Typically these sites give you the option of getting emailed if a product goes below a set price or when one store changes its price on a product. And, since stores change their prices all the time, you can plan on getting plenty of emails!

So, how can you avoid adding all this clutter to your Inbox?

Just subscribe to a feed from Bountii in the RSS reader of your choice. And, we’ll keep your feed updated with the latest pricing information on the products you’re interested in.

For instance, if you want to get pricing updates on any 52″ HDTV from Samsung, click the “Subscribe” link on this search results page. Already have a particular model in mind? Say the LN52A650? Then, click the “Track Price Changes” link on one of our Samsung LN52A650 deal pages like this one or click the “Subscribe” link in our search results.

Keeping Up With All Your Picks

Posted Thursday, June 12th, 2008 by John

Adding a Pick to one of the deals you see on Bountii is an easy way to let other people know what catches your eye. And, since so many of you are kind of enough to share your finds this way, the “User Picks” page is always chock-full of great deals for everyone to check out.

Now, we want to start letting you do more with stuff you Picked.

With your new “My Picks” page, you can view all your Picks in one place. Plus, we’ll show you how much the deal’s price has changed since you added your Pick and whether it’s in stock. Think of it as your Bountii Shopping Cart!

Note that your “My Picks” page isn’t the only way you can monitor prices with Bountii. By clicking the “Subscribe” and “Track Prices” links on search results and product pages, respectively, you can receive pricing updates in the RSS reader of your choice. We’ll talk more about these features in our next post.

Place Updating Prices Anywhere on the Web

Posted Sunday, June 1st, 2008 by John

Prices change 24/7. So chances are the price you tell people about today will be different than the one they see when going to the store. This type of situation occurs all the time…

You email your friend about a huge sale at BestBuy.com on the 40” HDTV he’s in the market for. He reads your message a day later and goes to the store only to see it’s back at regular price.

You write a blog post reviewing the GPS unit you just bought at Amazon for $30 less than you could find elsewhere. Thinking you’re doing them a favor, you link all of your readers to Amazon not knowing that other stores will drop their prices days, if not hours, later.

Or you might be trying to sell a recently purchased MP3 player you realized you didn’t need on Craigslist. To emphasize the quality of your price, you list a few prices being offered by retailers. And, without your knowing, one of these stores changes its price causing potential buyers to be mislead by your ad.

If you were to try to keep these prices up to date on your own, you would have to stay up around the clock monitoring stores’ prices.

Why not let us do it for you?

By clicking the “Share” link on almost any page on Bountii, you can take a picture of our search results and place it anywhere on the web such as emails, blogs and forums. And every time someone opens an email or web page that contains your image, we’ll update the prices in it. We call it Price Broadcasting!

See it in action below or play with a sample image.
